We strive to maintain a fully stocked in-house pharmacy to meet the medical and preventative needs of our patients. Our goal is to provide you with immediate and convenient service to help keep your pet healthy and happy. One benefit of getting your prescriptions directly from us is that we will answer any questions you have about the medication’s benefits and side effects, provide you with written instructions for use, and even demonstrate how to give your pet the medication. Another benefit of getting your pet’s medications here is no waiting period. We can package the prescription for you to take home with you at the time of your appointment. If in the rare instance we don’t have the medication you need in stock or we don’t regularly carry a particular medication, we can special order it for you and have it available for pickup within 2 – 3 business days. We have close relationships with both our distributors from whom we purchase our medications and with our delivery services which helps us ensure that the medication is properly packaged, shipped and handled from the time it is manufactured until the time it is dispensed to you.
As a small business, it can be difficult for us to compete with online pharmacy and big box store pricing. Online pharmacies may buy larger volumes of the medications and get bulk pricing that is lower (often much lower) than what we pay to have the medication in stock. Because of this we work with our distributors to secure rebates and other incentives (such as free doses) to bring the costs down for you. We often find these rebates and free doses make us less expensive than the competition for heartworm preventatives and flea/tick medications on a per dose basis. Our pharmacy also includes several different options of flea, tick and heartworm prevention that we can help you choose from based on your pet’s lifestyle.
In order for us to provide your pet with a prescription – dispensed or written – we must have established a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship. This means we must have physically examined your pet at least once within the past 12 months. In order to maintain this relationship, we must see your pet regularly – how regularly depends on your pet's health and medical conditions. If your pet is on a prescription medicine for a chronic condition, we may need to re-examine your pet, check blood work, or perform other tests to monitor your pet's response to treatment and determine if the medication needs to be changed.
We also carry prescription diets from several different brands so we can find the right food to suit your pet. Often we may give you a couple of cans to try before ordering a whole case to make sure your pet will eat the food, however, when you get your pet’s diet through us, you can always return unopened and unexpired cans and opened but unexpired food for a reimbursement. The same is true if you order your pet’s prescription diet from Purina Vet Direct or Hill’s online website and they will ship your food directly to you.
